Facts and figures

The story behind avocado oil

The existence of avocados dates back to the 8th century BC thanks to an archaeological dig in Peru.

It is also believed that the Aztecs and Incas relied on avocados for a variety of ailments.

Of course, they ate the fruit for nutrition and to add flavour to their other foods, but more than that. History shows that they used avocados as part of their daily skincare regime.

The climate in Mexico and South America was quite brutal, with intense heat and strong winds, both of which are damaging to the skin.

Ancient cultures realised that avocado oil could not only rehydrate their skin, but could also prevent the harsh elements, such as harsh wind and strong sun, from damaging the skin further.

At the same time, the oil was allowed to showcase its many other benefits to the skin, and avocado oil became a daily tool for treating common skincare conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, windburn, and sunburn.

No, we don't. You can find avocado oil that is suitable for internal use, but ours is not. Our oils are for external use only and therefore cannot be eaten or otherwise ingested orally. This is because they are cold-pressed and not further heat-treated. This means they still contain natural bacteria.

Avocado oil has a low comedogenicity, meaning it won't normally block pores and cause acne breakouts. However, as with any oil, it can still cause problems for people with very oily or clogged skin. If you're prone to acne or clogged pores, you may want to use avocado oil in moderation or combine it with other ingredients that help cleanse and exfoliate the skin, such as tea tree oil or salicylic acid. Avocado oil is usually deep green in colour as it is extracted from the flesh of ripe avocados. However, the colour can vary depending on the origin and quality of the oil, as well as how it has been processed and stored. Some avocado oils may have a more yellow or brownish colour, especially if they have been exposed to light, heat or oxygen, which can break down some of the natural pigments in the oil. However, in most cases, avocado oil will have a distinctive green colour that reflects its natural origin and nutritional properties.
