The story behind passion fruit oil

Passion fruit (aka Maracuja) is a small yellow or purple egg-shaped tropical fruit. It is known for its various health benefits.

Inside the fruit is an orange-coloured juicy pulp and as many as 250 small, hard, dark brown or black seeds. These aromatic, edible seeds yield around 23% of oil.

The scent of the oil is very fruit-like and is a vibrant yellow colour. The oil possesses many natural benefits for both skin and hair.

The purple passion fruit is native from southern Brazil through Paraguay to northern Argentina.

Passiflora or "Passion flower (Flos passionis) acquired its name from descriptions of the parts of its flowers provided in the seventeenth century by Spanish priests in South America, known at the time as "New Spain" It was known by the Spanish as "La Flor de las Cinco Llagas" or "The Flower of the Five Wounds". Passionis' refers to the sufferings of Christ. The parts were interpreted from drawings and dried plants by Giacomo Bosio, a clerical historian in Rome (1609), which represent different elements of the crucifixion.
