Make your own fragrance diffuser DIY

fragrance diffuser diy

I This time of year, my living room smells of lavender, because I've been experimenting with making beautiful and fresh scented diffusers for scented sticks. It's a simple project that doesn't require a lot of ingredients, but it has a great effect on the mind, wellbeing and a sense of self-satisfaction when you've made it yourself. Home fragrances

I've been looking at all the beautiful fragrance diffusers you can buy in the shops for a long time and thought it would be great for my own rooms - mostly because I think they're so beautiful to look at.

But it wasn't until I visited a friend who had some on display that I realised how much personality, mood and atmosphere they really help to create, and I thought I had to get some, and why not make them myself?

As a bonus, they can also help to improve wellbeing, but more on that later.

Get creative with your diffuser

When you make your own fragrance diffusers, you can mix and match your personal favourite scents and experiment with exciting, unique blends.

Plus, you can also control how strong you want them to smell, depending on how much essential oil (fragrance oil) you use.

So there are many reasons to embark on this super-easy project that can't go wrong (there, I said it!), and you can find everything you need for it in Chleopatra's own products.

How to make your own fragrance diffuser

Pour the almond oil or apricot oil into your bottle, then add your Favourites among the essential oils.

You may want to start with around 20-30 drops (some prefer as little as 3 drops) and use the mildest of the fragrances you use.

I personally don't like overly strong scents in my home, but it's a matter of taste and luckily you can control it however you want.

You can always add more drops of the essential oils if you want a stronger and more distinctive scent.

Once the oil is added, screw on the metal ring that comes with our bottlearound the neck of the glass, and you can then organise your fragrance sticks in the quantity you want.

An alternative method: You can also choose to make your fragrance diffuser with a mixture of 1 dl water and 1 tbsp. of clear schnapps or vodka - to which the essential oils are added. The schnapps will spread the scents faster, but the liquid will separate and the oils will float on top, so I prefer the first method.

Using a fragrance diffuser

A fragrance diffuser works by drawing the liquid from the bottle up through scent sticks releasing the scents into the room.

The more fragrance sticks you put in your diffuser, the more fragrance will spread from it.

Turn your sticks over if you want a stronger scent for a period of time.

With our glass diffuser comes with a smart closure for the mouth of the bottle if you want to store it away for a period of time.

Tip!

You can use our own beautiful Bottle for your fragrance diffusersOr you can head to your local thrift store and find a beautiful and unique one.

Just be aware that the neck opening should not be too large or open, as the liquid will evaporate too quickly.

You can also use perfume bottles, as they often have beautiful shapes and embellishments.

Remove the opening with a pair of wire cutters, taking care not to break the glass. Wear gloves if possible.

As the fragrance does not easily disappear from the bottle, some of the scent from the perfume will mix with the oil and spread throughout your room.

So if you don't like the scent of the perfume, I wouldn't recommend this, but if it's a scent you still love, this kind of upcycling or recycling is a no-brainer - and also good for the environment.

Let your rooms smell different

Mixes different scents for your different rooms.

What's great to smell differs depending on whether you're in your living room, bedroom, kitchen or bathroom.

I have mixed lavender and citronella for my living room. Lavender remains my favourite scent, and by mixing it with the lemon scent of citronella, I get the calming effect of lavender and the fresh and clean scent of citrus.

My bathroom needs a different kind of fresh scent, and I love to use ginger. It's sharp and direct and also goes well with homemade detergents or soap. Here again, I would mix it with citrus scents.

I want my bedroom to smell of pure lavender, as it is inherently calming to the mind - and isn't that what we want here?

In addition, I often spray my sheets (especially when they are freshly washed) with our flower water with lavender.

It adds a mild and soporific aroma that is also great to wake up to again in the morning.

There are essentially no limits and you can mix and match to suit your mood and taste.

The impact of scent on the mind

Scents can create moods and memories, and they can also directly affect your mood.

This is partly because the sense of smell is the only one of our senses that has direct access to the brain.

Using scents to relieve stress, create happiness, cheer up, sharpen concentration or generally change mood is therefore used as an active means of aromatherapy.

So it doesn't matter what your home and rooms smell like.

If you want to know more about the different fragrances and their unique properties, please visit our essential oilswhere they are each described.

Hopefully you'll find one here that matches you and your needs.

Enjoy the project
