Body oils infuse the skin with essential fats and vitamins. They help moisturise the skin and are great for keeping the skin hydrated for most of the day. At the same time, it softens your skin and in many cases will prevent/relieve skin irritations such as acne.

While some people think that oil doesn't really suit the skin and that this combination will leave the skin oily. In fact, the opposite is true. Body oils increase the quality of your skin because they are absorbed relatively quickly and deeply into the skin without leaving an oily surface.

To get the most out of the oil, we recommend using it immediately after showering. This way, your skin will still be slightly moisturised and will absorb the moisture from the oil faster and more efficiently.

Benefits of using pure oils for the body

The most obvious benefit of body oils is their remarkable ability to moisturise the skin. Unlike many body lotions, the best organic body oils are free from harsh chemicals.

And as mentioned, body oils will lock moisture into the skin for hours, while body lotions disappear faster. When your skin has a healthy balance of moisture, it feels soft and supple.

In addition to the many physical and emotional benefits of body oils, switching to body oils can actually save you money.

This may seem contradictory, as many of the best body oils are more expensive than lotions. But be aware that a little bit of oil goes a long way.

To effectively moisturise the skin and create a pleasant massaging experience, simply use a small amount of oil to cover a large area of the skin.

Conversely, regular lotion often requires a good amount of pressure on the pump to cover the same area of the body.

And relatively soon after, the skin craves more. It doesn't do this in the same way with pure oils.

Make your own homemade body oil for the skin

A homemade body oil can basically consist of any oils you find interesting. However, we've decided to make it a little easy for you in the beginning. That's why we've cheated a little in the best TV-kitchen way and put together two wonderful body oils.

The first homemade body oil is a light and non-greasy oil (not that either of the two are, but never mind). It's good for most skin typesas it is both mild and soft in texture and on the skin. It contains the following oils:

Jojoba oil, which is actually a liquid plant wax and very similar to our skin sebum. It's emollient, great for wrinkles and will easily penetrate your skin without leaving a greasy residue. It also has a natural SPF of 4.

Almond oil is pretty much the most common oil - in a good way. Not only is it a sure-fire winner when it comes to massage oil. It's also great for all skin types and is incredibly moisturising.

Apricot kernel oil is a rich antioxidant oil that also contains anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties.

All the oils are relatively neutral in flavour. Together, this blend is easily absorbed by the skin and leaves it silky smooth.

It is best to use a dark glass bottle. Partly to avoid contaminated spills from the bottle itself and partly to protect the contents from light. A lotion pump is much easier to use in this case than a pipette. It also gives you the same amount with every squeeze.

Homemade body oils - Additional info

We recommend applying this body oil blend right after showering so you can lock in the moisture for the rest of the day.

The second homemade body oil actually consists of a solidified oil and honey.

Coconut oil is a favourite classic for many oil lovers when it comes to a full body oil lotion. And with good reason, I hasten to say. My wife and I use coconut oil all over our bodies every day. It gives the skin a nice soft feel and if you like the coconut flavour, you'll probably think it smells nice too.

Honey may be mostly thought of as a healthier sweetener, but you'll be surprised to learn that this ingredient has tonnes of benefits for both skin and hair.

Made by the wonderful bees that collect nectar, pollen and resin from flowers, honey can help moisturise skin, fight ageing and even fight bacteria.

As a bonus, honey is also packed with beneficial nutrients, antioxidants and healing components. It's a great way to prevent dry skin and wrinkles.

Vitamin E Oil is essential for skin repair. It fights the free radicals that damage cells with its antioxidant properties.

Conclusion

Body oil is just delicious. It cares for and nourishes the skin while leaving it feeling clean and soft. Everyone can benefit from it - people with dry skin, but also those with Oily skin.

The oil can be used all over the body and is especially pleasant to apply after a bath.

You are free to decide how often you want to use a body oil.

You can apply it several times a day, but we recommend listening to your skin. If you normally have dry skin and suddenly find yourself with an oily surface, you might be using just a little too much.

In addition, the content provides a protective effect against both free radicals and other external bacteria. Coconut is also believed to have a natural, albeit small, sun-protective effect.
