How to use

How do you use sea buckthorn oil?

Sea buckthorn oil stands out from other vegetable oils in that it has an incredibly strong and penetrating colour. The aroma itself is a bit special, but the colour is extreme. This means that you need to be extra attentive and careful to avoid discolouration of textiles and furnishings.

When applying the oil to the skin, you may notice a slight colouration of the skin, but as the oil is absorbed (use only a very small amount at a time), you will find that the intense colour disappears.

The oil can be used directly on the skin, but many people choose to mix it with other vegetable oilsbecause of the colour. By mixing it, the colour automatically becomes less.

Simply take a few drops and apply them to the skin with a massaging motion so that the oil is evenly distributed over the entire surface of the area you want to treat.

What is sea buckthorn oil good for?

  • As a wonder drug for anti-ageing wrinkles
  • To strengthen the regeneration of skin cells by moulding collagen
  • To soften skin and improve skin tone
  • To rejuvenate the skin
  • To promote the healing process for burns, sunburn, eczema and small wounds
  • To promote skin hydration and elasticity
  • To help prevent acne
  • For rosacea
  • For oedema and minor wounds
  • Against inflammation and scarring

Facts and figures

The story behind sea buckthorn oil

Despite its name, sea buckthorn has nothing to do with the sea. Sea buckthorn was already known in ancient Greek.

It's also called "Sallow Thorn", presumably from the berries that can stain the skin yellow (they've been used to make pigments and dyes).

The Latin name for sea buckthorn is Hippophae rhamnoideswhich translates to "to give light to a horse" (hippos - horse, phaos - light); referenced for its reputed ability to cure blindness in horses (well, that's the story anyway).

What is more accurate is probably the more indirect translation of "Wood that makes a horse shine".

Basically, sea buckthorn was used to cure horses and make them shine.

Sea buckthorn is native to Europe and some northern regions of Asia, but is also cultivated elsewhere.

For its medicinal properties, sea buckthorn can be traced back to around 800 BC in Tibet.

I am deeply grateful for sea buckthorn oil, and it has saved my skin again and again when I have had large wounds from hives, age spots, pimple breakouts, old white scars, sunburn, stretch marks - with 5-10 applications, it simply removes everything or reduces it so that it is a natural part of beautiful skin with a deep glow. Especially in conjunction with sun and combined with coconut and olive oil, it gives a deep beautiful olive tone as it is very orange in itself. Do not use more than 1-2 times a week on its own - it's a cure and it rubs off on everything :-) a very powerful and effective oil. Also really good to add a few drops to your face oil to give a golden sunburnt glow.
